The Straightforward Method
Age in months is completed years multiplied by twelve, plus the leftover months reported by the age calculator. The leftover months must come from the calendar result, not from dividing the total day count by 30.
For a birth date of 2020-01-10 compared with 2026-09-11, that is 6 years and 8 months: 6 times 12 plus 8 equals 80 months, plus the extra days toward the next month.
Why Months Are Tricky
Because calendar months are 28 to 31 days long, converting days to months with a fixed divisor drifts by several months over a lifetime. Calendar subtraction avoids that drift entirely.

Infant check-ups, vaccine schedules and child development milestones are usually tracked in months, precisely because year figures are too coarse during the first two years.
Why the First Two Years Are Different
In early childhood a single month is a large fraction of a whole life, so clinicians record age in months in order to compare growth against standard charts accurately.
